Wildfire Digital is Bernadette Blanchard. For 24 years I've built the structure underneath enterprise B2B websites: the information architecture, the navigation, and the wireframes everything else gets built on. I work directly with in-house teams, and as Clear Digital's freelance Director of User Experience.

Services. The parts that decide everything else.
Research & insights
User testing, surveys, and focus groups alongside stakeholder interviews, analytics, and behaviour data. Every structural decision starts with evidence, not opinion.
UX strategy
Personas, user journeys, and a strategy that ties business goals to user needs. It becomes the fulcrum leaders rally around, bringing every team together and getting momentum rolling.
Information architecture
Structure that makes complex products feel obvious, and the navigation model that expresses it. The right thing, in the right place, every time.
Narrative structure
Where enterprise projects stall: writers wait on the page, designers wait on the content. A skeleton for every page, setting its argument, modules and order, gets both teams moving the same day.
Page and navigation wireframe design
Every screen and every state, plus the menus and mega-menus that connect them. Drawn before a line of code, as the blueprint visual design and engineering both build from.
AI-accelerated prototyping
I use AI to turn an approved structure into a fully working prototype in days, not weeks. Clickable, annotated, and handed over with the guides your team builds from.
Modular template systems
Page systems built from reusable modules, so one template proves itself and then scales across segments instead of being redesigned page by page.
Test & optimize
Then I test it, improve it, and keep on delivering. A/B testing and CRO that compound over time.

Rip and replace. Why I redesign rather than patch.
Almost everything I take on is a full redesign. Not because rebuilding is more fun, but because the problems worth hiring me for are structural, and you cannot patch your way out of a structure. A navigation that grew by accretion does not improve when you add one more item to it. An architecture that mirrors an org chart does not become buyer-centred because someone renamed a menu.
Enterprise sites decay in a particular way. Every new product, campaign and stakeholder request gets appended. Nothing is ever removed. After a decade the things that grew fastest have crowded out the things that mattered. Surescripts had not been redesigned since 2015. Splunk was carrying well over a hundred pages inside a product taxonomy it had already outgrown. Neither was failing because of a bad page. Both were failing because of what had accumulated around the pages.
So the clearing is not the destructive part of the job. It is the part that makes the rest possible: strip out what is no longer true, keep the few things that were always load-bearing, and give the good ideas open ground and light.
Burn it back, and what returns is stronger than what stood there before.
Attention is scarce.
Good ideas are everywhere.
Most of them die inside bad structure.
Get that right, and the good ones spread themselves.

Bernadette is a class act with world-class results. I first worked with her years ago as a client of the agency she worked for, and then again more recently as an individual UX consultant. She is quick to tune into the issues to address, and then tenaciously goes about getting it done. All while maintaining the utmost professionalism and keeping a sense of humor! She is that rare fusion of creative and analytical that we marketers so desperately need today.

As an external design consultant, you hope for several key attributes in your clients: clear direction; decisiveness; the ability to skillfully navigate internal bureaucracy; and a strong sense of what works, and what doesn't. Having worked with Bernadette on several high profile projects for Brocade, I can gladly attest to her possession of these skills.

After a thorough but swift discovery process, Bernadette went to work, and produced brilliant sets of designs. I was happy that she was able to wrap herself around, and understand, my need for a minimalistic, sharp, yet approachable feel. I couldn't be more pleased with the process and the results. So pleased that we couldn't stop at just the rebrand. Bernadette and Wildfire Digital are now onboard to head up our marketing and creative efforts.

About. The person you would actually be working with.
I'm Bernadette Blanchard. Wildfire Digital is my practice, and has been since 2002. Webby and ADDY award-winning work in information architecture, navigation design, UX strategy, and wireframes, almost entirely at enterprise scale and almost entirely B2B. Complex products, long sales cycles, technical audiences.
I work two ways. Directly, as an in-house team's UX lead through a redesign or an optimization push. Or through Clear Digital, the Silicon Valley B2B agency where I have been Director of User Experience on a freelance basis since it was WebEnertia. Agencies hire me to be their UX department rather than build one. Splunk, GLG, Hoover+, Aviatrix and Surescripts all ran that way. Either route, the senior person you meet is the one doing the work.

Wildfire Digital is one person: Bernadette Blanchard, an independent senior UX consultant who has been designing enterprise web experiences since 2002. There is no team and no account layer. The person who scopes the work is the person who does the work.
What does Bernadette Blanchard actually do?
Bernadette Blanchard designs the structural layer of enterprise websites: information architecture, navigation design, narrative structure, page and navigation wireframes, and AI-accelerated prototyping, along with the user research and UX strategy that feed them. In practice that means deciding how content is organised, how people move through it, and what each page argues, then drawing every screen before anyone writes code.
What kinds of companies does Wildfire Digital work with?
Enterprise B2B, almost exclusively: complex products, long sales cycles, technical audiences, and several distinct buyer types on one site. Clients have included Splunk, GLG, the Hoover Institution at Stanford, Aviatrix, Surescripts, Cisco, Thales, Lumentum, SailPoint and Socure, across cloud, cybersecurity, healthcare technology, semiconductors, financial services and research.
Does Wildfire Digital take on consumer or B2C projects?
No. Wildfire Digital works in enterprise B2B only. The specialism is deliberate: the problems that make B2B hard, such as multiple buyer personas on one site, technical and executive audiences needing different proof, and product portfolios that outgrow their own navigation, are not the problems consumer work teaches you to solve.
How do you engage Wildfire Digital?
There are two routes. Directly, joining an in-house team as their UX lead through a redesign or an optimisation programme. Or through Clear Digital, the Silicon Valley B2B agency where Bernadette Blanchard has been freelance Director of User Experience since it was called WebEnertia. Agencies engage her to be their UX department rather than build one. The Splunk, GLG, Hoover Plus, Aviatrix and Surescripts projects all ran that way.
What is narrative structure, and why does it matter?
Narrative structure is the skeleton proposal for each page: what argument the page makes, which modules it makes that argument in, and the order they run in. It is neither copywriting nor visual design, which is exactly why enterprise projects stall without it. Writers cannot start until they know what the page is. Designers cannot start until they know what the content is. Supplying the skeleton unblocks both teams at once, and it is the gap Bernadette Blanchard most often fills on enterprise B2B engagements.
Does Wildfire Digital do incremental improvements or full redesigns?
Both. I take on optimization work too: navigation fixes, template and page improvements, UX audits and testing. My deepest experience, though, is in full redesigns. The biggest problems on enterprise sites tend to be structural, and sites decay by accumulation, where everything gets appended and nothing gets removed, so a full rethink is often what makes everything else possible.
Does Wildfire Digital do visual design, branding or front-end development?
No, and that is intentional. Visual design, brand identity, design systems and engineering are handled by the agency or in-house team on the other side of the handoff. Wildfire Digital delivers the architecture, the wireframes and the page narrative those teams build from, which is why the work slots into an existing team rather than competing with it. If you need the visual design and build as well, I work with Clear Digital, who handle UI design and development end to end.
How does Wildfire Digital use AI?
In everything I do. AI is part of every stage of my process: synthesising interview and survey research, drafting personas and journey maps, running competitive and content audits, exploring structural options, producing wireframes, and turning an approved structure into a fully working prototype in days rather than weeks. I also lead AI adoption at Clear Digital as its AI Champion.
But AI is only as good as the judgement directing it. Twenty-four years of experience decides what to ask, what to keep and what to throw away. Every output is iterated, checked line by line and challenged before it goes anywhere near a client. The final say on the research, the architecture, the navigation and the narrative is always mine.
What results has this work produced?
On the Aviatrix redesign, the average deal cycle for leads generated by the website fell from one to two years down to 90 days, and lead conversion to close rose from under five percent to more than ten percent within three months of launch. On Splunk, time on site rose 59 percent and form conversions rose 113 percent. On Splunk's free trials flow, user satisfaction had been measured at 1.98 out of 5 across 343 survey responses before the flow was rebuilt.
Engagement and business figures were reported by Clear Digital for the programmes this work formed part of.
Where does Bernadette Blanchard publish, and has the work won anything?
Bernadette Blanchard writes bylined articles for Clear Digital Insights and for Bootcamp, one of Medium's largest design publications, as well as on wildfiredigital.com. Recent subjects include how AI is changing what corporate websites are for, AI-accelerated UX research, B2B website visibility, navigation patterns for technical audiences, and narrative-driven homepage design. Her work has been recognised with Webby and ADDY awards.
Where is Wildfire Digital based, and how do projects start?
Wildfire Digital works remotely with clients internationally, with roots in Silicon Valley. Most engagements begin with a short conversation about the problem, followed by a scoped proposal covering the research, architecture and wireframe deliverables. To start one, email hello@wildfiredigital.com.
